portrait of Maureen

Maureen Walterhouse has been the backbone of the Department of Religious Studies since 1991. Maureen met her husband, Don, in Gilmore Hall and raised both of her children while serving in her role as administrator. Maureen’s depth of knowledge about the department and university is extensive, and the depth of her connections with our Religious Studies students, faculty, staff, and friends is remarkable. Her office is rarely without a visitor— not only is she the go-to for questions and problems; she’s also been a source of kindness and camaraderie for everyone that our department serves. Beyond the building, through her work hosting our annual AAR reception and our Adler Luncheon over the years, she has become the face of the department for many of our alumni and donors.

Maureen will be retiring this June, and we will host an open house to celebrate her impactful career. We will gather in Gilmore Hall’s third-floor atrium on May 7th from 4:00-6:00pm and will serve light appetizers and cake. Her warm smile and get-it-done attitude will be sorely missed, though we’re certain she’ll enjoy the extra time she’ll be able to spend on her quilting.

All of us in Religious Studies wish her the best!
