Biography

Osamamen Oba Eduviere is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Religious Studies and holds a certificate from the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies department. Presently, she is an ACT Scholars Programs Fellow. The research fellowship has enabled her to focus on her dissertation, examining how food restaurants and churches have played a crucial role in the resettlement of Nigerian immigrants in Uptown Chicago. 

She is interested in the ethnographic method of research and has used the methodology on a couple of projects across campus, like the Midwest Connections Project, Homebuilding in the Heartland Project, and the Jumpstarting Tomorrow Project. She engages actively with the African immigrant community in the State of Iowa. Her findings on the community features in the Conversation US, as she highlights the significant roles of faith-based organizations in the resettlement processes of African immigrants in Iowa. 

Osamamen has about ten years of teaching experience at the Department of Religions, University of Benin, Nigeria, where she also served as a junior year course adviser. She spends her leisure time volunteering to teach the English language to non-English speaking immigrants in non-profit organizations in Iowa City.
